Field Trip to Other Missions in the El Paso Area!

Ysleta Mission
After the church service a group of us ventured out in the Ysleta bus into the El Paso area to go on the El Paso Mission Trail. This mission trail included 2 other missions and one that was technically a chapel. We learned from the lady at the information booth that the definition of a "mission" in this area  is a building that was set up by the Spanish in the 1500-1700s to provide outreach to the Native Americans at the time and help convert them to Christianity. A "chapel"  in this area was a building that was in use by people who were already Christian.

We visited The Socorro, Elizario, and Ysleta ( not the one we are staying at) missions. The construction of the missions were completed in 1691,1789, and 1682 respectively.

The buildings were all built in the Spanish Mission style and were furnished to use as Catholic Churches. Ysleta is the first and oldest mission in Texas and the second oldest continually used parish in the United States.
